Trail Tuesday - Pheasant Branch Conservancy

Tuesday, November 19th

Welcome back to Trail Tuesday!

I’m sharing some of my favorite areas around Madison to get out and explore nature. Babywearing is essential to hike some of these trails with your baby or younger kids, but I’ll also let you know when a stroller is an option. I’m sharing early since this will be an in-person hike on November 19th. Sam from @playfulacorns will be with us again taking photos! We had a great time and have some beautiful photos from the October Connect + Contribute event.

We’ll meet at Orchid Heights Park (3960 Valley Ridge Rd) in Middleton, WI at 9am for free baby carrier fit checks. I’ll also have a small selection of carriers form my learning library along if you want to try something new. After seeing how energetic everyone in the group is feeling that day, we’ll either head North to Frederick’s Hill or South toward some bridges and boardwalks. The aim will be about 2 miles, but we can always walk a little further if everyone is feeling up to it.

If you would like to participate in the optional Connect + Contribute with Playful Acorns Sam will get your info to send pictures and payment information. For $30 you’ll receive 5 edited digital candid photos from the hike with half of the proceeds going to a non profit of your choice, either Madison Babywearing or Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy.

Pheasant Branch Conservancy is a 682-acre natural area located in Middleton, WI. It’s a great spot for hiking, biking, and birdwatching. The Pheasant Branch Creek and natural springs located around the conservancy are lovely spots for sitting and enjoying a moment of calm. Not to mention my kids always enjoy a bridge to play on for a minute when we’re on a hike.

The conservancy is one of my favorite places for a trail run. You’ll experience the previously mentioned water features, prairies, meadows, and forests all in about 3 miles of trails if you’re on the main loop. In the past I was able to take my kiddos in our jogging stroller around this loop which is mostly packed gravel and a section of wide boardwalk. This trail is also shared with bikes, so be on the lookout.

Parking is available in multiple spots, but my favorite parking places are Orchid Heights Park where we’re meeting on the 19th and the first lot along Pheasant Branch Rd. If you work up an appetite while hiking, Prairie Cafe and Bakery (3109 Pheasant branch Rd) and @miggysbakes are just down the street from this parking lot.;)
